How to do Keyword Selection?
There are actually a lot of free tools you can use to do your keyword research. Let me just list down some of them here.
1. Google AdWords Keyword Tool - This is a good Keyword Tool to get new related keyword ideas.
2. Yooter Keyword Tool - Free keyword tool, and it’s based on the Overture / Yahoo! search marketing results.
3. Free Keyword Suggestion Tool from Wordtracker. I think this is one of the best free tool you can use to research the keyword you are targeting.
And of course there are keyword research tool that require you to invest some money to tap their database. I personally use Click Ad Equalizer, simply because I think not many people are using it and I won’t have to fight for the same free database with everyone else.
Is keyword selection that important?
If you’re planning to get continuously flow of traffic to your blog or website, then, of course choosing the right keyword is important. And it is also important to find out whether or not it is possible for you to get high ranking for the keyword you are targeting.
What types of keyword should you target for?
I don’t know about you, but I would go for keywords with high search volume and low competition. It’s very easy to figure out how many competitors are you going to crush! Go to Google, and type your keyword in between these brackets ” “. For example, type “make money online” into Google search box and you will be able to figure out how many sites are competing for that keyword. If you look closely, there’s 2,170,000 webpages and blogs are competing for that same keyword. No one in their right mind should waste their time to target this kind of keyword! Especially if you’re a new blogger. Try to target low hanging fruits keywords. It is much more easier to target for these keyword. Trust me.
How To Rank For Your Targeted Keyword?
Make sure you have your keyword in your title. It’s important to make sure that you have your keyword in your title, because that’s what the search engine will show as the title for the webpage. And for blogs that are on Wordpress, you might want to use plugins like the Title Tags Plugin to make sure that you will have a nice title showing up for your blog post.
And you also need to make sure that you optimize the article around your keyword. Perhaps repeat it with 3% density, and you would be on the safe side. There’s a thin line between optimizing your blog or website for your targeted keyword and spamming the search engine. So, make sure you not overdo it and always make sure your keyword density is not going to be counter productive for your SEO effort.
