Building on the foundations from Volume I, Maya Lab Vol. II delivers more advanced tutorials using the same meticulous step-by-step support and guidance that made the first disk so valuable to the Maya beginner. Through a series of five hands-on tutorials, we animate a futuristic spaceship as it settles on an alien landing pad.
Along the way, we cover topics such as setting keyframes manually, displaying and adjusting F curves, using expressions to animate objects, controlling one object�s movement with another using the Set Driven Key technique, and baking data. We show you how to edit the scene hierarchy, set and adjust lights and their shadows, and insert cameras into the scene. Object constraints are demonstrated by precision positioning of lights that track the ship as it lands. The power of Maya is revealed as we delve into the layer editor, outliner, channel box, and hypershade editor.
We explore Maya�s particle dynamics by adding exhaust smoke to the ship. Particles require understanding to control successfully. By creating realistic exhaust smoke and adjusting the dynamic relationships, we help you begin to understand the complex process of particles.
Finally, we adjust the lighting, add fog, and render the scene. You�ll learn how to set the output aspect ratio, adjust the render quality settings, and use the FCheck viewer to see your rendered frames as an animation. When you�re satisfied, you can save your rendered frames as a QuickTime movie.
The Maya Lab Vol. II was developed by Tom Meade, author of �Maya 6: The Complete Reference�. Using the techniques demonstrated in these tutorials will accelerate your learning curve and help you unlease the power of Maya.
